Epidemiological analysis of aged population in the family medical office No. 15 of the Previsora Clinic

Abstract

Introduction: Population aging is one of the most discussed topics when it comes to population dynamics. It constitutes a challenge where all countries have been affected by this demographic challenge, especially Cuba. Objective: To analyze population aging from the epidemiological and social point of view. Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in May 2024 at the Previsora Polyclinic in Camagüey. The population under study was made up of 140 patients and the information was collected from the survey carried out. Results: The age group of 50-79 years (45,7 %) and the female sex (55.7%) predominated. The percentage (16.7%) of women of childbearing age with and without risk behaved in the same way. High blood pressure was the main communicable disease identified (36.4%), followed by diabetes mellitus (15.7%). There was a predominance of university students (40%) and in second place the completed pre-university students (34.3%). Working patients prevailed (26.4%) and after them retired patients with 25%. The dominant nutritional status, normal weight (90%). There were two female patients who died while only one male patient. Conclusions: Aging is a natural and irreversible process that begins with the birth of man and that decreases his capabilities over time, it is a special form of the movement of matter; complex process that not only depends on biological causes, but also on the socioeconomic conditions in which the individual develops as a social being.
