International impact of the work carried out by the Cuban medical contingent Henry Reeve

Abstract

Introduction: As early as 1960, the Cuban Revolution provided its first international assistance in the field of health, thus taking its first steps in the medical collaboration that currently commands high global prestige, demonstrated by the work carried out by the Henry Reeve Contingent during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objective: To systematize the international impact of the Henry Reeve Cuban Medical Contingent from its creation in 2005 to 2020.

Method: A bibliographic review was conducted from 2020 to 2025, selecting 24 articles from the PubMed, Science Direct, SciELO Regional databases, and information available on official Cuban State websites.

Development: The Henry Reeve Contingent has represented Cuba on five continents and demonstrated the prestige of Cuban healthcare, especially its medical training and ethics. The contingent's history of more than fifteen years of service has been recognized by media outlets and organizations internationally on various occasions.

Conclusions: From its inception to the present, the contingent's work has been characterized by its members' willingness to successfully complete each new task wherever necessary, always upholding the national principles of sovereignty and solidarity, as well as the values instilled since the Triumph of the Cuban revolution.
