Abstract

Introduction: Aortic dissection is defined as the rupture of the middle layer caused by an intramural hemorrhage that results in the separation of the layers of the aortic wall, giving rise to the formation of true light and false light. At present, arterial hypertension is recognized as the most frequent risk factor associated with the disease.

Case report: It is presented a case of a 43 years old male patient, who comes to the emergency room with chest pain and dyspnea. In the clinical examination and the complementary ones carried out, the presence of aortic dissection is verified, it will be addressed later with medical and surgical treatment.

Conclussion: Adequate knowledge of the disease is necessary, since the delay in diagnosis generates fatal consequences for the patient.
